In Quiet Embrace
I was hiking back to my car after a successful sunset shoot. As the light faded, I could feel the stillness of the forest settling in all around me.
In this sea of aspens, my eye was drawn to this “odd couple”—two white birch trees, intertwined and leaning into one another. Their pale bark held the last traces of light, setting them apart from the surrounding forest and the deep shadows of the evening.
I’m glad these trees caught my attention. They were a simple invitation to slow down, observe, and truly inhabit the moment.

Jacques-Cartier at Dusk
As the sun began to set, a warm, intense light spread across the entire river valley. I used a long exposure to give the river a glass-like appearance, capturing the deep peach and orange hues as they filled the sky. The way those colors reflected in the water felt almost surreal.
In the distance, mist and low clouds gathered, adding a sense of depth and atmosphere to the scene. As the minutes passed, the light continued to intensify, becoming more vivid and layered with each moment.
It remains one of the most striking sunsets I have ever experienced. It was a quiet, powerful reminder of the beauty found in the natural world.

Birchbark Canoes
Two birchbark canoes rest quietly at the river’s edge.
The river was perfectly still, allowing the forest to settle cleanly into its reflection. The surface held everything with a calm precision, undisturbed and complete.
Low cloud drifted slowly down the valley, softening the distance and adding a quiet sense of mystery. The scene remained simple, but not static.
The warm birchbark canoes rest lightly at the edge of the frame, offering a gentle contrast to the cool greens and dark water. It was the stillness, more than anything else, that made the moment feel complete.

Late October, Saint-Anne River
Taken during a late October evening in Gaspésie National Park, this image was made as the setting sun reached the distant ridge, warming the upper slopes while the valley below remained cool and subdued.
The Saint-Anne River curves steadily through the landscape, its movement slowing the scene rather than animating it. Soft colour from the sky settles into the water, held gently by the river’s surface.
Along the left bank, a small stand of tamarack trees had turned a brilliant yellow, standing out gently against the darker forest above it. What appealed to me most was the sense of order. The bend of the river, the quiet reflection, and the balance between warm light and shadow allowed the scene to resolve without needing anything more.

Mount Ernest Laforce
From the summit of Mount Ernest Laforce, the sun dropped toward the horizon as a thin crescent moon hung above the range. Patches of snow still clung to the distant mountains, a reminder that the seasons move at their own pace here.

Jacques-Cartier River Reflection
In the early morning calm, the Jacques-Cartier slowed enough to lose its sense of movement. The valley and sky settled cleanly into the water, and for a time the river felt entirely at rest.
